The Struggling Economy

It's no secret. The economy is in the toilet.

The last eight years has almost sunk a once thriving ship of productivity and efficiency.

We have an astronomical debt, banks closing around the country and people losing their homes at unprecedented rates. Things may seem bleak but one must know that every cloud has a silver lining.

Barack Obama is a man that has always seen that silver lining. He has overcome the greatest of odds in his short life and has landed himself in the most prestigious of offices, or what once used to be the most prestigious of offices.

It will take a lot of work to undo the damage that has been done in Washington and around the country. It won't be an overnight thing. This country has a broken leg and it will take time before we can walk the way we used to. Barack Obama will do what is necessary to mend this great nation. He won't simply put a band-aid on things as a quick escape.

The greedy ways of America must be changed. Those on top must realize that without those towards the bottom, there is no way forward. Think about being a child in gym tied to the rest of your class. If all the legs don't work and move together in the right direction, there is really nowhere to go but down.

That's what has happened to the USA. Things seemed to be going great for a while. My baby-boomer generation parents never struggled to buy a car or a house in the past but in recent years have had some troubles. Sound familiar?

When I was a child growing up in the 80s and 90s, there were never any worries about filling up the gas tank to go on a family roadtrip. A majority of Americans, the middle class especially never struggled to put food on the table until recent years.

It is quite troubling. The greed and narrow-mindedness of the vast majority blinded us from the imminent crash from wreckless behavior that was waiting patiently for our collide.

The country is divided. A lot of Republicans are reluctant to welcome Obama into the White House. The a lot of Democrats are angry at the GOP for their dishonest campaign. In order for things to go the way Obama envisions for us, we must work together. We must put our petty differences aside and embrace the similarity that binds all of us together . . . we are Americans.

Like the children in gym class, we must keep our strides in sync or we'll never move forward. We must use these past years as a constant reminder of why we should work together as one. Unity is the one thing that will set us free.
